Caring for handmade art
Handmade art is more forgiving than people expect. A few small habits keep it looking its best for decades.
Keep it out of direct sun
Direct, all-day sunlight will fade almost any pigment over years. A wall that gets bright indirect light is ideal — you keep the glow without the bleaching.
Dust, don’t wipe
A soft, dry brush or a clean makeup brush lifts dust from textured linework better than a cloth. Skip sprays and damp wipes; moisture is the one thing fine detail doesn’t love.
Mind the humidity
Very damp rooms — directly above a stove, an unventilated bathroom — aren’t ideal long-term homes for paper-based work. Most living spaces are perfectly fine.
Framing
If you frame under glass, a small mat or spacer keeps the surface from touching the glass. For unframed pieces, a stable indoor wall is all you need.
That’s genuinely it. Made well and hung thoughtfully, a piece will outlast the wall it hangs on.
